Blocking is the first line of defense against an incoming attack. In Bujinkan, we use a variety of blocking techniques, such as uke nagashi (receiving and flowing) and gedan uke (low block). These techniques are not just about intercepting the attack but also about redirecting the energy of the attack, allowing us to take control of the situation.
Trapping is another important technique in Bujinkan. Once we have blocked an attack, we can use a variety of trapping techniques to control the opponent's movement and prevent them from launching another attack. For example, we can use kuzushi (unbalancing) techniques to off-balance the opponent, or we can use tegumi (grappling) techniques to control their limbs and joints.
